A few months ago I noticed that certain songs were damaged; they made my computer stall partway through playing and won't copy to my iPod (can't be read from or written to). Then I started noticing it with files that I've just downloaded, and starting this week every time I've downloaded an album there's been at least one damaged song. Anyone know what's going on? Any ideas are appreciated.

A little background info... I use a MacBook Pro that I bought in 2007 and I upgraded it to Snow Leopard last year (skipped Leopard). I also keep my iTunes library on an external drive. I'm using the latest version of iTunes.

Do you keep the music files only on the external drive or on both an external and internal drive?

Based on what you've said so far I'd be concerned about a failing or damaged hard drive.
