So, there's been a lot of topics about unlocking the 3gs on 5.0.1 but this requires the irreversible baseband upgrade.

My question - is it only the 8gb, more recent iPhone 3gs's that can be bricked? or can 16gb/32gb recent models also be bricked?

Sorry, I'm really new haha.

No worries. It's 8Gb 3GS that were manufactured after a certain date. If it's an 8gb 3GS that was manufactured after week 28, it could use a different wireless chip and thus be fried;

Yes, that's what I've been reading. I believe the date is sometime after the 30th week of 2011. But, was Apple even producing new 16/32gb models at that time? I'm pretty sure that recently Apple and AT&T are only selling 8gb models.

So, if after week 30, Apple wasn't even producing 16/32gb models then (with a little good luck..) no 16/32gb models in circulation should be bricked by the iPad baseband.

I think week 28 (I'll go by that) would have been end of July. I thought there were only 8Gb 3GS produced after the iPhone 4 was released? If that's the case all 16/32Gb 3GS should be fine ...

If you run the latest redsn0w 0.9.10b3 and click on the iPad base and, a warning windows will pop up and it gives warning for 3gs, made in 2011, week 35 or above.

So, theoretically, 16/32gb can be successfully unlocked. Hooray!!

I've seen the warning, but in actuality, it shouldn't even be a problem for any non-8gb iPhone because they were not being produced at week 35 of 2011.

Correct. Going by that common knowledge you should be all set.

Of course apple is still producing 16/32 GB iPhone 3GS's. There will always be people that will pay to get repaired/refurbished iPhones. They still produce the 3G

Apple was producing 16/32GB 3GS's after week 35. I had an old 3gs that had water damage and replaced it with a refurbished 16GB 3GS, it was week 40 of 2011. I tried installing iPad BB and it bricked the phone.

I've been reading forums and for a solution and this has happened to alot of people on other jailbreaking forums and the Week 35 of 2011 affects all 3GS, 8/16/32 GB.

DO NOT TRY TO UPGRADE TO IPAD BB REGARDLESS OF HOW MANY GIGS YOUR PHONE HAS, ANY 3GS MANUFACTURED AFTER WEEK 35 of 2011 will get bricked.

That's a good caveat to point out. I think he meant if he bought it new as the original phone and user.
