I am living in France and had my 3Gs unlocked at a phone shop yesterday so I can use a local provider rather than paying roaming charges (from my Canadian company).
It seemed to unlock fine, I've tried various French SIM cards, all of which have worked. but... I am now unable to type capital letters with my phone. It works fine when I start typing (I can use shift to make a single capital, or double tap it for capslock) but as soon as I insert a number or symbol, returning to the standard keyboard leaves me unable to create capitals... the shift button highlights blue only when tapped, but doesn't stay blue and will not work to create capitals.
My major problem with this is an inability to connect to wifi, as the passwords are case sensitive and in caps.
I had been running iOS 5.0.1, now running 4.1 with current Modem Firmware 06.15.00.
One last question - pardon my lack of knowledge in this - but I thought with the recent developments in hacking that it was possible to unlock/jailbreak and continue running iOS 5...
Have I been screwed over by this phone shop??
Thanks
