Numbers: How can I categorise entries by month?

I have a spreadsheet of all my invoices for 2011 (a total of around 150 invoices) and want to have a chart showing my turnover by month. However, whenever I make a chart it has 150 individual bars rather than 12 'sub-totalled' bars.

Any help appreciated.
