What is a grandfathered carrier plan?

grandfathering refers to carrying discontinued plans into your current contract because you still have them active on your account. Generally this refers to carrying the old unlimited data plans forward. The catch is that once you switch off of them you usually can't switch back (without lots of work).

I see, so my carrier gave me an unlimited text plan, then discontinued it later. I still had the plan after they discontinued it, because I was on it when it was discontinued. Thats a grandfathered plan, right?
