Thinking of buying a macbook pro 17inch

Hi,

As title says, im thinking of buying a Macbook pro 17inch, i have come to that option because i want the benefits of having a Macbook and a Imac at home.

i already have a 27inch screen. witch is dual link dvi only. 2560x1440 s-ips

The Macbook pro now only has thunderbolt,

If i purchased a Macbook, how could i output it to my dual link dvi monitor?

Mini DisplayPort (MDP) / Thunderbolt
Mini DisplayPort is the current digital standard on all current Macs to transfer video to an external display or TV. It has been introduced in 10/2008 with the release of the Unibody MacBook and MacBook Pros and has gradually been adopted on all other Macs.
MDP is capable of transmitting video, and since 2010, audio too. MDP is a miniaturised version of DisplayPort. It is also license free and can support resolutions of up to 2560 x 1600, which Mini DVI and Micro DVI are not able to do.
Since 2011, all Macs come with a Thunderbolt port, which is meant for fast data transfer and also as means to connect to an external display device to mirror or extend the Mac's screen.

Thanks for reply's, i did see that cable,

but didn't realize that thunderbolt port was all so a mini display port.

That mini display port to dvi dual link, has quite a few bad reviews.
 
All the above are right. I have a 17" it's heavy..I mean heavy. It Eats tasks' for fun, but depending on your posted requirements MBA?

Reason being that carting a 17" Pro is hard work.

An MBA for short term portability is far better than the MBP option. I have both because I have to.

When Apple manufacture an MBA 15" with at least 500GB My Pro will go.

The only bad thing with the MBA is the limited dualcore.

I want the 17inch MBP Because of the high spec needed for logic and video editing.

Way more powerful than MBA. put an ssd in it an max the ram at 16gb and you will be very happy for music and video.
