So, I'll be taking ownership of a mid-2010 i5 MBP with the only current upgrade from the base-model being 8GB ram. I've got an SSD already that I'm hoping to put in it (hoping its compatible). What I'm really wanting to do is hear if it's worth pursuing getting the high-res matte screen put in it and/or a change to the quad-core i5 processor?
I ask all of this because I am currently using a quad-core i5 2.6ghz (non sandy bridge) hackintosh with 8gb ram and currently hooked up to dual 23" NEC IPS displays. I'd love to replace that rig with this MBP, but would hate to "step down" in power and potentially give up the dual 23" lcds (i've read about the zotac minidp to hdmi splitter, the matrox2go units, and the usb to dvi units (like the diamond, Sewell Minideck USB to DVI, and EVGA 100-U2-UV19-TR units).
Any thoughts? Am I basically stuck with lcd resolution and overall power on this MBP? Should I just sell it and put that money towards a newer MBP or MBA, or even the most recent model mac mini?
Thanks for the feedback. I've got the last generation mac mini with the superdrive as my HTPC, but am really wanting to switch to a REAL mac setup for my main development machine and was hoping this MBP would do the trick, but am worried about performance loss with that and my current hackintosh.
ok i'm done rambling and will listen to what you awesome folks have to say
