I got a Macbook air 2011 bought sometime in July last year. Till date, I have experienced 5 screen froze and 1 dead issue. For the dead issue which happened today, the system basically refused to respond and the screen was blank. I called apple care and was advised to press shift+control+option+power buttons together. The system woke up after the power button was pressed.

Need your advice. Although the system is working now, do I send it for servicing so that Apple could thoroughly check it?

Try this first and see if the problem continues.

Been there, my MBA 2011 froze irregularly about once every three days or even thrice a day. SMC, PRAM / NVRAM reset didn't help. Basically the screen was on during the freeze, but everything else except the power button was unresponsive. Apple changed the whole logic board for me.

Hey Dave, My mba does this exact thing. How did you get your logic board replaced? Did you just call apple?

I just brought it straightaway in and described what it had been doing, one week later fixed -> logic board problem.
