I've had to recently reset the SMC on my MacBook Pro 2011. Just curious as to whether or not doing so can cause damage to to hardware. Apple views it as a "last resort" to solve any issues, so it most have some implications?

Even though it's recommended to try other solutions before resetting the SMC, it can't harm your Mac to reset it, or Apple wouldn't give instructions on how to do it. Just make sure you're resetting it only when appropriate.

Could resetting the SMC unnecessarily cause damage then? I'm just curious on the issue now that it has come up.
