It's coming from the bottom plate that covers the internals and all that jazz. Mine does that same but it's not that bad.

update. created another video. i think its not the hinge..

The MacBook Airs have a small clip in the middle of the bottom pan that clips into a plastic clasp in the middle of the battery. Considering in the videos the sound is coming from exactly that region, i'd be inclined to think that's what it is.

Agreeeed. It a pretty intense noise though, you could bring it to an apple store. The MBA is s new they will just give you a new one.
I hav a slight clicking noise from my MBP from that connecter, for grounding or something like that I read, that touched the bottom plate.

Wouldn't the same just happen to the new one. Most likely not as bad though?

I went through 3 MBAs because of the creaking. My fourth unit was finally perfect... Then 1 month later it started to creak. I need to buy a MBA screwdriver, I hear that the screws loosen and that is what causes the creak.

i finally got home and unboxed the new one. i am happy to report that so far no creak! very solid!

:)

BTW - your creak was odd, but most creaks seem to be able to address by tightening the screws on the bottom with the Pentalobe screwdriver. I've had 3 Airs, and each has at some time developed a small creak. Didn't bother me that much, but a quick tightening of the screws addressed it each time.

where did you buy the screwdrivers at?

appreciate it. Mine does the little clicky sound too randomly but not too often. Might as well tighten the screws before it gets worse and irritates me too

Your welcome. I own one. I had the 13" 2010 MBA for about 6 months and it bothered me as well. After a tighten up of the screws it really helped. I traded it in for the 2011 11". I will say the 11" is not as acceptable to the loosening because of the smaller frame, less torque when handling in one corner. After almost 6 months I have yet to hear a creak.

I think they are both great machines. The current design does require a little periodic maintenance on the bottom plate.

I figured that's what it was. You know how when you lie down on your side and you pick it up on the side and you can just feel all of the weight shift to the other side of the air, that's when I hear the clicking and I realized it probably shifts the energy around all corners loosening the screws a tad bit.

Out of no where starting yesterday my air started "popping" and creaking. The bottom panel is completely tightened but it looks like its starting to bulge out in the center, so when it is on a flat surface it pops. Very peculiar.. Going in tomorrow morning.
