Jailbroken 3GS (5.01) Help with SIM unlock please

Evening,

I've jailbroken a friend's 3GS for him but had a few problems using pwnage tool so used Redsn0w instead.

All worked fine (took about 4 attempts) but it's still carrier locked. Ultrasn0w doesn't seem to work either.

Any thoughts on carrier unlock, iOS 5.01, 3GS please?

The iClarified guides are good for using pwnage (done several times before), but I can't seem to find the definitive answer for the carrier unlock for iOS 5.01 on a 3GS
