Hey guys, I wanted to put together some LEDS that would fade in and out like the standby light on the front of the MacBook. I also want to control the time of delay it fades in and out.

How small can I make these? I want a lot of individual units, powered by small batteries if that's possible. I've searched online, and it seems like I need a lot of components to just have it fade.

Something like this, but with a longer delay in bettween.

He has a lot of stuff there, I don't know what I'm looking at. Let me know if this is a simple process, and if I can get this small, like holding a few in my hand small. Any help and suggestions would be great. I'm a pretty crafty person, but I've never worked with electrical stuff.

Thanks guys.

Alternatively you could use capacitor that will charge and discharge. Problem: for it to have a sufficiently slow charge and discharge time, you would need a huge capacitor. The 555 timer is probably your simplest option.
