I just got a powermac g5 and I need a VGA to dvi cable or adapter to hook it up to my monitor. Can someone recommend a cable or adapter for less than $10?

Cable or adaptor.

But do you need to go from a DVI output to a VGA inout (thread title) or VGA output to a DVI input? Those are two different things, as VGA is analog only, thus needs a converter (linked to in my first reply) to make the analog VGA signals digital, if you have a VGA output.
DVI is digital and analog, thus a cheaper adapter can be used to go from a DVI output to a VGA input (again, a link to the appropriate adapter is included in my first reply).

This one shell work http://www.fullcompass.com/product/364005.html?utm_source=googleps&utm_medium=shopping&utm_campaign=googleps&gclid=CKayqeu-iK4CFUSo4AodR2K-6A I used a adapter just like this one on my G5 Dual 1.8GHz to a VGA 15in dell flat screen and it worked fine:)

Again, this is assuming the OP's G5 has a DVI, and he needs to connect to a VGA monitor, that's cheap, $5. If his is only VGA, and needs to convert to a DVI monitor, that is a whole different animal, like salad said, it is going from analog to digital, and needs a converter box, that is not "$10 or less"

i used a dvi to vga converter.

Question though..

Is 640 times XXX(forgot the other) resolution the only one available?

Love the adapter but thats the only res i can get and looks terrible on my beautiful hdtv :(
