So several sellers have luck selling unlocked ipad 2's on ebay for on avg. about $900. So you're telling me they can profit a few hundred dollars because they spent 10min unlocking their ipad? Is that even legal on eBay? These buyers must not have a clue about how easy it is to unlock an ipad.

To my knowledge, iPads are already unlocked
 
And those that are locked (typically those sold outside the US, that are carrier subsidised) can only be unlocked by going to the carrier and requesting it to be unlocked.

In my case, 3UK refused to unlock the iPad as I wasn't the original owner. Turned out to be much easier just to sell it and buy one that was unlocked.
