I bought an iPhone 3G off eBay and it's stuck in Recovery. When I try to restore, it gives me error 1015. I have no idea what firmware it has or anything. I use a Mac with Snow Leopard. What can I do?

Yea, but I don't know what firmware or IOS version it haz

I already tried pwnd DFU mode with RedSn0w 0.9.8b3. I also tried Tiny Umbrella 5.10 and set my hosts to Cydia. I even manually edited the hosts file. It now reads:

# when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.

Thanks.

  1. I deleted the lines
  2. put the iPhone in pwned DFU mode
  3. relaunched iTunes and tried to restore.
  4. After 5 minutes, iTunes got stuck on Restoring iPhone Firmware and crashed with error 1015
