Xterm window does not accept keyboard input

Hello, I am having problems with an xterm window not allowing me to type. I have a simulator from class that opens up an xterm window. I am using x11 to execute the simulator. What I am doing is ssh'ing into a server, then running a program that ultimately opens an xterm window. When I execute it, the xterm window pops up but I can not type in the xterm window. I can resize the window but I can not use the scroll bars or type. X11 terminal works great (except for copy and paste :/). When I try to run it in terminal.app, it tells me it can not create the xterm window.

intel core 2 duo macbook pro running mac os x lion 10.7.3

Disregard this. X11 and xterm are working perfectly fine I evidentially dont know how to read directions.
