So my computer keeps freezing whenever I am opening a application that uses the hard drive extensively (like Mail or Utorrent) or when I am opening a large file (e.g. a movie).

I checked activity monitor and the CPU and RAM are completely fine, but as soon as the mac starts to freeze the Read speed on the Hard Drive goes 100+ MB/s. Now I am pretty sure my mac can't read that fast. How do I solve this problem?

Depending on what Mac you have, your Mac can read that fast from an internal 3.5" HDD (iMac, Mac Pro) or even 2.5" HDD (MBP, MB, MBA, Mac mini).

I don't know, why µTorrent would need to excessively read that much on startup. I understand the need for prematurely writing to the HDD one chose to store torrents to, to make "room" for the file.

Why don't you use an external HDD?
