Does anyone else run into this? I'm on a mid 2009 MBP, 15" 2.66ghz. Seems like 8 times out of 10 (ball park estimate) that I start up the machine, after the Apple chime, my optical drive makes a blatant buzzing noise. The drive still seems to work okay but the noise persists. At first I thought it was a HDD issue, but I'm pretty sure it isn't.

Anyone else have this?

The noise is normal, but usually it occurs right when you press the Power button (before the chime), from what I remember.

My Mid 2011 iMac's superdrive makes a noise upon start up every time. Every Mac Ive seen does this as well... the desktops do at least.

I believe it's normal. I have an 09 model and the drive makes some noise when I start the machine. My gf's 2010 model makes a clicking noise when her mac starts up.
