I am trying to do something very simple. In one column (Column B) I have a list of words. I add to this list regularly so this list gets very long. Each time I add words to the bottom of the list I do a column sort to put the words in alphabetical order.
But i wanted to see all the words (or as many as possible) in one screen view so i did the following;
in contiguous columns, columns C through J (and i will continue to add columns as needed) i have used a simple reference formula, (i.e.) in cell C1, i put in the formula reference =B1, in C2, I reference =B2. i do this through 50 rows and then go to D1 and continue to reference starting with =B51 and continue to copy that formula down the sheet to row 50, and then go to the next column and start with =B101 and continue. I have done this for about 7 rows thus far.
Here is my problem. My sort of column B works fine and the words i have added to the bottom of the list fall into place alphabetically. But the cell references formula don't pick up the new words and in fact the cell that contain the words cell reference formula have now been skip in the sequence ofcell references. If a new added word was sorted to B65, the =B65 cell reference in column D is missing in the sequence of cell references in that column.
i find that what i am trying to do is very simple but numbers does not react like excel (which is what i was used to). what am i doing wrong?
