Hi there, I've just upgraded to the latest Macbook Pro 15", 2.4Ghz, quad core and need to transfer all my stuff from my old Macbook Pro 15", 2.8GHz, duo core onto it. What firewire cable do I need? The 9pin to 9pin, 800mbs? Coz it's expensive! $50 bucks to just use it once is a bit steep for me.

You can also use an Ethernet CAT5e or CAT6 cable, but 50 USD for a Firewire 800 cable is quite expensive. I can get those for less than 10 €, even 5 €.
Newegg has several.

Ahhh, I live in Melbourne Australia and want the cable right now. Anyone know where I can get one?

You could try the Jaycar Electronics Store at 45 A'Beckett Street (south of Victoria, between Franklin/Swanston and LaTrobe/Swanston), their phone number is 03 9663 2030, so you can ask them, if they have a CAT5e or CAT6 cable (which almost all electronics stores have), as you can use a CAT cable more afterwards than a FW800 cable as it seems.
