I am having problem with .m2ts video playing with VLC under OS X. The bitrate of video is really high (46Mbps), but that should not be problem as under Bootcamp Win 7 it runs just really smooth. However in OS X it freezes in every 5-7 secons for some time and then continues playing.
Power should not cause that, because I'm more than sure that 4 Core 3.1GHz can play it fine.
Any solutions?
 
Highest Ive done any media is 44 megabits per sec.
Thats an BD-MPG from a Drift camerat > FCPX > Adobe Media Encoder.
Those play perfectly on a 2010 Mac Pro 12core w/32GB RAM.
Longest clip is about 5min.
What are your specs and how about other footage of same nature?
Using VLC v2.0.0 currently on OS X 10.6.8.
 
I am running on i5 4-Core 3.1GHz SB CPU, 8GB of ram.
I haven't played any media with bitrate that high, but I don't think lack of power causing it, because in Win 7 it plays fine.
/Using latest OS X Lion update with latest VLC player.
 
I take it thats an iMac.
The footage should be played off an external drive and not from internal.
Too much going on for all that frames to push thru :)
Cant compare OS X and Win 7 since its two totally different OS.
Its been like that from day one where I can play a big chunk of MPG/AVI on a lowly PC but cant do the same with QT on a spec faster Mac.
Windows from my experience always seems to be smoother at that.
And your using VLC on 7 too right?
Does it have to be an .m2ts file?
Can test with a muxxed mpg from the same file?
 
Do you think converting .m2ts to something else would help?

Are you planning on using this for BD? Do you need to leave it as .m2ts?
Its just a container not usually left at that state.
Just to add, I tried to play back a big 2 min uncompressed QT HD movie on my MP 2.93GHz w/32GB RAM and Quadro 4000 card.
Waste of time off an internal but playing it off the G-Tech SAS connected 8TB does the job.
What Im getting at is, Ive never ever played back smooth high megabit rate videos of any Mac without the help of DSP chips or playback cards worth more than the computer itself.
VLC does a great job with the MPG/AVI/WMV/h264 downloaded off the internet and as well as anything less than 40megabits.
