Hi,

I would like to engrave the following message on ipad but I'm bad in english (and I don't trust google translation)

Line 1: something that indicates that the ipad has geolocation
Line 2: "Thanks for returning this iPad to : address@mail.com"

I will create an email address so that if i resell it, i will just give the pwd to the buyer.

Here is my question, what should I engrave for line 1:
"Geolocated device"
"Location-aware device"
"Geolocalized device"
something else ?

Apple are really pushing this...My guy kept saying "But you can have it engraved with a guitar...It would look so cool..." Not for me. As posted there are features to protect your iPad....Not only that, but engraving your email address is a REALLY BAD idea...Think about it a second.
 
I don't think engraving what you want will be of any benefit.

a) Its common knowledge that iPad has geo location built in

and

b) If you lost it you can just send it a message with the desired email address via "Find my iPad" in icloud.
 
Engraving doesn't make that much sense these days because you need a back cover for you iPad, so it will be there for no one to see.

@Macman45 : Lol, I will not engrave my personal email address !! Like I said I will create a specific one (and use redirection).

b) if he erases and restores it via iTunes, will I be able to send him a message via "Find my iPad" ?

@homeboy : I don't have iPhone case and I don't think i will get a case for my iPad, except smartcover (but i will pick apple care :))

Why is it a bad idea? (Serious question)

I asked because I was thinking of having 2 lines as follows:

"Property of MY NAME"
"myemail@myprovider"

You think this isn't a good plan?

Alternately just put "If found call <phone number>" on the lockscreen wallpaper with any image editor.

A lot of them do judging by craigslist, ebay, amazon, etc. Personal decision though, if you're going to hold onto it until it's worthless then go for it, if you expect you might resell it one day consider the value of having the engraving vs. the resale price impact.

Fair enough. I have always kept my Apple products until the end of their lives, usually 5 years, and only upgrade when I absolutely can't use them anymore.

But indeed, re-selling every year or so and upgrading also works I guess, albeit at extra cost. I just like the idea of getting as much out of each product as I can.

If you're never EVER going to sell it, go for it. But if you do sell it, good luck finding someone who wants an iPad with your personal information stuck on it. Oh, and now you've given a complete stranger your personal information. And then they sell it and someone else has it, and then someone else, and someone else... And if there's EVER anything wrong with it, guess who they're going to contact?

I got: "There are FOUR lights!"

Awesome to me, but it should be a non-factor in any attempt to resell.

Fair enough, good point. Although I don't think a stranger having just my name and email address is much of an issue. There's not a lot they can do with it.

I never put a back cover on mine. The screen is the only part that needs protection (from objects being dropped on it). After a year the aluminum back is still like new.
