Mine says "processing" and I ordered at 4pm. Consider yourself lucky. It depends where it's coming from and where it's going. If its shipping from China it's likely it's already shipped. If its shipping from a US warehouse, they still have a couple of days to ship.

These folks deserve a day off once a week or so...

Im in the same boat my order saying "prepping for shipment" i would not worry about it as the last poster said it all depends on what model you got and where its coming from.

I got the 32G wifi Black...

Because the Apple Gods are against you on this one...sorry.

x2....you'll never figure out how and when fed ex and apple are doing what they do...just be aware you will get it on 3/16...they never have missed so far....and I've been on every pre order launch since the iphone3....

but please... continue to post your paranoia/worry here....

Have people not realised that iPads are shipping from multiple locations and shipping times will vary? Plus Apple would use next day air or expedited shipping if they have to, to get it in your hands by the 16th or whtever your delivery date is.

Be patient young grass hopper.

I just got email says shipped. BUT. Not delivered till 3/16 b4 3:00pm
It's coming out of PA

Mine says "Preparing For Shipment", ordered 3/7.

During the commercial break of the program I'm watching, a news reporter gave a 5 second sound byte saying the "pre-ordered iPads wont ship until Monday."

Anyone else heard about this?

Mine was ordered at 6:00pm EST and says Preparing for Shipment. A buddy of mine ordered later that night around 9pm EST and his is shipped and picked up from Nashville, TN.

Guessing they just randomly polled someone who ordered the iPad later after launch, maybe yesterday or today, and the ship date is later, and they assume it is everyone who pre-ordered.

I just received the email that mine has been marked as Shipped. FedEx doesn't have anything on my tracking number yet but by Monday I should know where it's coming from.

I ordered mine on the 9th with the March 19th shipping estimate and mine already shows "preparing for shippment" does this mean I might get it early? Seems kinda odd that it would not ship tell the end of next week if it's already at this status.

True. My iPad is in Middletown, Pennsylvania, which is only 2 1/2 hours away from me. I got the "shipped" email today.

I am wondering the same thing! I ordered mine on March 9th and earlier today I have "preparing for shipment" status, but my delivery date is March 22. If I receive it a day early: I will be very happy.

Yes, it just means that the dates have already slipped until the 19th (monday) if you ordered today. There's a Reuters story about it. Nothing to do with people who have a receipt from Apple that says what date it ships on.

Remember folks, if you have an email from Apple that says which date you will receive the iPad, that is the date you trust. It doesn't matter if Apple hasn't charged you yet, it's going to arrive on that day.

For clarification, until your order is picked up by FedEx or whatever carrier Apple uses in your area, the status will say being prepared for shipment. Once the carrier assigns it a tracking number, then within the next 8 to 24 hrs it will appear on the carriers site so that you can obtain specific delivery info.

Make no mistake, no matter the carrier, they follow orders from Apple. Meaning if early, they will not deliver it till release day. The only exception is if Apple allows them to deliver it one day early as they have in the past.

The other influencing factor is if you ordered early enough. There is no absolute assurance you will get it by the 16th. The extremely high volume of orders and potential delay if your charge card processing does not go smoothly, all factor in.

The most accurate estimate will be when you can use the carrier issued tracking number on their site to follow it's progress. Prior to that there are too many variables to count on anything.

Apple said I would get my Smart cover on 14-16 but I got it on the 11th. You cannot always trust what they say.

On the iPhone 4 launch they said I would get my Bumper on the launch day but it did not come until the following Monday.

There will be slip ups and some people may get their iPads early.

My dark gray smart cover scheduled delivery has changed from Tuesday to Monday now.

The black iPad is still in process to be shipped and i pre ordered past 10PM Wed 3/7.

Yeah, bumpers, covers, accessories are not what I was talking about.

Apple schedules these launch days in advance with various worldwide carriers and makes sure that these packages (iPhones, iPads, not accessories) arrive on the day quoted. Yes, in some few cases, devices will arrive early for whatever reason.

I just registered to tell you guys I ordered 2 of the Verizon iPad 3's - 32 GB - White (one engraved).

The engraved one I'm giving to my mom shipped, but mine hasn't.

If I didn't have it engraved I'd be saying, "my mom's didn't ship yet but mine did" ;) :apple:

Anyway.. I just thought I'd tell you guys because I ordered them together at early 4'ish right after the store opened again.

I think this means the "Preparing for shipping" status on my iPad didn't have anything to do with when I ordered it, what coast I was on, or if it's engraved.

Thank you to the earlier posters who make great points about the fact my order says it will be here on the 16th then it will be here on the 16th. It's like, Seriously? who is going to anger the company that has a half a trillion dollars in the bank?

(hope this helps someone who internet searched like I did and is a preparing for shipping state of shock)
