Smart cover not turning off screen?

I have a Miniot cover that is similar to the Smart Covers and it is not turning off the screen on the new iPad. Anyone with a Smart Cover having a similar experience?

Does your cover have the same magnetic interface of the genuine Apple Smart Cover? If not, it probably won't work.
