I've got my beloved iPhone 2G for 5 years already and I still love it so much despite the lack of features. But the wifi died of me yesterday, I want know if I can bring it to apple store and get it fixed? i assume it will be a direct replacement of a fee as it is out of warranty, I dont mind paying for it.

the problem i have is that my phone was never activated on the ATT network, I jailbroke it and used it on another carrier. Will they still fix it like this?

You might have to restore it and bring it in so they dont see cydia or other JB hacks.
I think its $149 for the replacement fee and if they dont have any in stock they will order one for you.

A fix at Apple is a refurbished replacement at $149.00.
(A battery fix/replacement is an exchange for yours for a refurbished + $69. expense.)

thanks guys! very helpful! $149 is very good!

apple store is closed right now thats why I asked on here lol!!

but i'll call them to make sure they have stock first as I am coming from Canada!

I doubt they'd have stock. Will have to get one ordered in.

iPhone 2G replacement

sorry folks another thread for the old 2G. I am going to the apple store tomorrow to get my wifi fixed, it longer works. I am assuming i will be given a replacement for a fee of $149.

Because the phone was never activated on the ATT network, if I activate now will I kick start the warranty so I will have a full year?

also because it is jailbroken, i would obviously have to restore it first before going to the store. Do I have to get a gophone sim to activate first or can I just leave it with a factory firmware but the phone will be locked they can't access the wifi menu?

thanks

Yeah right:D
Negative on the warranty, and yes restore it and bring it in.
I dont think you need to show them the wifi issue since you're already paying the out of warranty fee.

Yes... I am also batting whether to stick with 2G or buy a 4S or iPhone 5.

The problem what I have is not the budget, I want to keep it unique and the less people who are using it, the better it is for me. Many people i have came across doesn't know which iPhone I was using and they are always curious to look at it. Almost everyone at my school has a 4S, and is so boring looking at others having the same phone.

When the iPhone 5 comes out, the situation will be the same, everyone will be dying for one and then everyone at my school will soon have a 5.

can anyone give me suggestion to my situation please?

Btw, is there anyway i can keep the old one while i pay for a fee for a replacement model? because i had it for 5 years and i would really miss it.

then is it possible to just swap the parts for wifi fix? I can buy an used iPhone for like $40-50 nowadays

or could I go buy an used 40 dollar cracked screen iPhone 2g and go to genius bar and ask for a replacement ?

not trying to be ignorant here, but are you talking about just the original iPhone?

What is this 2G you speak of? From what i remember it went iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4s
