Strange Crashes

Hi all.
Since about a week (I guess since the last software update), I have quite a few apps that crash when I try to open Preferences. iCal does this, Address Book, Mail sometimes, Transmission, and a few more ...
I did a lot of searches on Google, tried a lot of 'solutions' mentioned but the result is still the same ...
Can anybody help me out here please?

I'm sorry .. I should have mentioned the crashes only happen on my iMac @ work .. I'm starting to think the fact that some apps are configured to use our outdated windows workgroup crap has something to do with it.
I already tried the options you mentioned, except for the PRAM re-set because I thought this was only for laptops?
I'm getting really frustrated by this problem :(
