forgot login password

I use a MBP for work..Got it about 6 months ago and swear I didnt setup a password on it. Today, I went to put a password on it (my 6 and 9 year old daughters are getting more curious) and I dont know the password. I tried this - http://osxdaily.com/2010/08/10/forgot-mac-password-how-to-reset-mac-password/ and it allowed me to create a brand new account on my MBP but I can't see the data on my other account. I get why this is the case but is there something I am missing that would allow me to move my data to the other user or get some form of password reminder for my original account? Thanks.

EDIT: I just realized that the link above is from 2 years ago...I am on Lion.

Does this help?

If not, you might need to enable the root user.

So anyone who knows of this can reset your computer password and access your documents?

Yep. Unless some kind of encryption like FileVault is employed.
