I have an iPhone 4 jailbroken on 4.2.1 with modem firmware 01.59.00. Is it possible to upgrade to 5.0.1? I have tried several different ways but I keep running into itunes errors like 1604 ect. My guess is that I am out of luck since this software is no longer being signed, but I thought I would ask you smart guys and gals before giving up.

thank you,
Alan

do you have your SHSH/APTicket saved with TU or Cydia?

If so, check the forum for the procedure, there are about 10 threads on it.
if not, you're SOL

I'm currently on 5.0.1 redsn0w untethered jb for iPhone 4.

What is the time frame that I can stay on 5.0.1.

When does apple typically stop signing this firmware ?

unlimited

as long as you don't have to restore due problems you can stay on 5.01

I believe Apple stopped signing 5.01 2 or 3 days after 5.1 was released, it has only effect on restores to 5.01.

With your IP4 and SHSH/APTicket you can even get around that :)

This is what I have:

iPhone2,1 XXXX full blobs:
4.1, 4.3, 4.3.1, 4.3.2

Does it need to say 5.01?

I wouldn't feel too bad about not being able to upgrade yet. I went from 4.3.2 to 5.0.1 a couple months ago. There are some nice improvements, but the upgrade for me was mostly eight hours of work getting my themes and apps back the way I had them.

Pkgbackup and SBbackup takes me about 20 minutes to download and get set back up. ;)
