Still cheaper than AT&T. AT&T activation see is $36 I believe. I could be wrong tho.

It's complete garbage. Got rid of unlimited data. Got rid of new every 2, now this? At some point you will have to pay full boat for every phone no matter what.

Anyone who pays an "activation fee" to their carrier is a fool. I never have and never will fall for this blatant money grab..

Then call yourself a fool as from what I understand it is no longer at the desecration of the sales people, it is mandatory.

Request to speak with a manager and they will waive it. I've NEVER paid an upgrade fee with any of the previous carriers that myself and my family members have been contracted with.

There is no such thing as "mandatory" when it comes to cell phones. Pretty foolish statement.

This doesn't sound like an "activation fee" though, it sounds like an "upgrade fee". Is Verizon planning on implementing one of those too? I think I paid an activation fee when purchasing my 4S.

Upgrade fee and Activation fee is pretty much the same. If you are a new customer you can call it activation fee, whereas if you are already a customer but upgrading then you can call it upgrade fee but it is still the same.

It is not a foolish statement is AT&T who pays this guys salary is told you can no longer waive the fee! Period

You are confusing activation fee with upgrade fee.

AT&T upgrade fee is $18 and it activation fee is $36. I have a feeling we will see AT&T increase its upgrade fee to $36. It is not like they have any real competition so they can get away with just about anything.

Not quite, the upgrade fee was recently upped to $36 for AT&T.

crap. I must of missed the increase. This is more an example of follow the leader.

Noticed a pattern. Verizon started requiring data plans for all smart phone and AT&T and other followed because they saw Verizon got away with.

AT&T put tiered data. It stuck and there was not to much screaming about it so Verizon followed not long after. AT&T raised upgrade cost and Verizon followed.

Noticed the price of the plans between AT&T and Verizon they are exactly the same.

Rodimus I have to give you a face palm for this post. :)

Who up-voted your wrong info??

For many many years now I never paid for an upgrade fee.
They always charge it but all it takes is a 2 minute phone call and AT&T removes it each time.
Hope they still do next time when I upgrade my phone.

I've always had my fees waived too. I guess the question moving forward is whether they will be as lenient about it as before.

Not to mention cost of pay-per-use text. I think sprint raised theirs to 20 cents/message and everyone else followed suit. It probably won't be long 'til the other companies get rid of their tiered texting plans like AT&T did. Shame, because I really don't need anything beyond a 200 message texting plan thanks to iMessage.
