Import from ios native videos app to Mac?

I needed to transfer some mpeg 4 videos taken with my video camera to my new iPad so I've added these to the iTunes library on a PC and sync'd my iPad. Now I'd like to make a home for the iPad on my Mac and need to recover the videos on the iPad. Since I don't have access to the PC used to sync the videos originally, I need to import them on the Mac before syncing in iTunes or otherwise lose them. They show up in iTunes when I connect the iPad to the Mac via usb but they cannot be copied. How can I import them from the native videos app to the Mac?
