Mophie Juice Pack dirt/goop?

I have a Mophie Juice Pack on my iPhone 4S. The phone was clean when I put it on in late December. I took it off today to do a good cleaning, and found a sticky reddish brown residue just below the volume buttons. Anyone else experience something like this? The case fits very snuggly, and I believe that it would be difficult for something like this to get under the case. Any ideas?
