When zipping files is there another way to delete the extras (junk)

When I archive (zip) files that are going to a PC user I archive the files (on a mac) and then on a windows PC explore the same zip file to remove the unwanted extras that would confuse a windows user, and then resave.

Is there a way to do this on a mac? For example is there a different zipping app that solves that without the need to open the same file on a PC? (If it's a large file hundreds of MB it takes a while).

I've tried a few - but haven't yet found one.
