I have a MacBook Pro 2006 model. I think the boot file is corupt and I have tried the recovery but stops and say boot file corupt reinstall. My problem is my DVDrom is dying and will not take disc. How can I boot and reinstall Lion from an external USB CD/DVD rom? Or please send any other advice.
Thanks

First you need to know which 2006 model you have; some 2006 models are not supported by Lion.

Now, you can use an external DVD drive, create a Lion recovery drive, or purchase a Lion USB drive. These options should all work.

If your computer does not support Lion, you would need to install Snow Leopard from an external DVD drive.

Good luck.
