Hello there. I am Garrett and I have a macbook pro. My macbook lags a lot, but in general, only in spots of lag. An example would be that I type in macrumors.com in my URL bar, and everything freezes. I can move my mouse, but I cant type, click another applications, click another tab, nothing! It is frozen for literally about 1 minute until it goes back to normal. This happens about once every 20 clicks I make.
Here is my Activity Monitor:

Try logging in as a guest account and see if it continues to rule out hardware issues.

Your swap file usage seems very high for a 4 gb machine. You could try repairing permissions. If that doesn't work, I would check the hard disk for bad sectors. A test on your RAM couldn't hurt either.

Is that java process taking up 700mb ram normal? I haven't seen that before

That's why I was thinking, even flash usually tops out at around 750 on my MBP...seems a little weird, not to be an alarmist, but would that be a possible indication of the java exploit?
