Buying the new iPad from John Lewis in the UK

I have had two from them; the first had a noticeably uneven screen with a yellow tint on one half. I returned the first unit. The second one I have kept; the screen is much more even.
Serial number prefix is DL.
Got my 32gb WIFI + 4G from High Wycombe on 22/04

First unit was purchased on day one of availability - 16th March, replace with second unit on April 7th. Could I ask why the curiosity on dates?
Sorry I should have explained. I'm trying to gauge the date of manufacture, and whether John Lewis merely bought in--say--5000 units back in March, or wether they've regularly been receiving fresh stock ever week or so.
I ask because I'd like a unit manufactured recently, because I believe some hiccups in the manufacturing process have lead to a few duff screens (as you've encountered yourself).
Anyway, this is all moot now because Apple has decided to dispatch my order after all -- an order placed about two weeks go now.
I have had 4 16GB white wifi iPads from JL, first 3 had a variety of problems, dust, scratches, bleed, colour cast. The 4th is the best although not perfect. My 4th unit arrived Friday 27th April. All 4 units were DY and week 14.
