After browsing ebay and CL it seems to me that 2009 is the sweet spot for buying a used 15" MBP. 2010 brings resell price near 2011 but 2009 platform is at the same bus speed as 2010, but at a considerably lower price. Do you think I could get a few years of satisfaction from a 2009 model with a HDD and ram refresh? BTW this will be my first Mac! :)

if i could get an i7 iwould not be looking at used macbooks. :( im on a budget and trying to get the biggest bang for my buck. i was just wondering if any one else thought that their was value in the 2009's based on the observation that i made.

Have you looked at the 15" 2.4 Ghz (i5) 2010 models with 4GB RAM and 320 GB HDD? Their price point should be right around the current 13" MBP, if not a little lower. Personally, I would be reluctant to purchase anything with a Core 2 Duo.

But, on the other hand, you could use the money you would save with C2D models to install a SSD.
