Hello MacRumors Subscribers,

I was wondering if it was possible to shut down 2 of my 4 cores on my MBP when I'm simply typing documents in word, or handling low level apps.

The reason why I ask is because I think that by powering off two of the four cores, I can significantly increase battery life.

Does anyone have any suggestions for 3rd party apps? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

As far as I'm aware, the processors do this themselves anyway. I don't think they switch off entirely, but they will wind right down if they detect that they're not being used.

There's (a little) more info on this page.

Lol you don't need to worry about things like that. OSX manages all of this. If cores aren't needed they won't be draining power.
