Activate iPhone 4 ?

Ok so I restored my iPhone 4 via itunes with out a sim card in it (AT&T) I am planning on selling it, so I wanted it back to original. Me not knowing that it would not activate with out the old sim card in it. So my question is can I take the old sim card out of my new phone and put it back in the iphone to activate it with out messing up my new phone? Any help would be appreciated.
