With apple releasing more retina devices and now being rumoured of working on a new retina MBP 13" (http://bit.ly/M9SRVr), do you think the next version of OS X 10.9 or the later 10.10 will be retina only? Of course we have to wait until all macs have retina displays, but I think its realistic that this time within the next 2 years all macs will have retina displays. What do you think?

Not in the near future. Maybe 2 or 3 or even 5 years down the road. With that logic, iOS6 would not be supported on the iPhone 3GS. Additionally, it would be too soon to alienate the users who bought non-retina models in the past 18 months and who will likely own those machines for at least 2 more years.

5 years from now? Probably. Sooner? Possibly but unlikely.

i really hope your right. I have no plans to replace my current macs for another 2 - 3 years.

If they were to go Retina only in 2 years it would reinforce this argument.

I think it will be longer than that. It took almost 4 years before OS X went Intel only with Snow Leopard and I can see the Retina switch being a lot slower than the one to Intel Macs.
