When RMBP connected to Thunderbolt Display

Hey,

I have ordered a RMBP, currently I have a standard 27" cinema display (basically thunderbolt) with an older MacBook connected to it.

I was wondering, when you connect a RMBP to that display, does it swap it's resolution down to non retina display to optimise on performance?

Anybody with this current set, how is performance?
 
The retina display still at the Best Retina display mode, and Thunderbolt display set to Best display mode.

When mirroring There are Best for external display, Best for retina display and scaled for you to choose.
