i just got my RMBP the other day and don't notice any real issues, but i am concerned that they're may be flaws I'm overlooking.
what is the best way to test for ghosting, dead pixels and any other semi common issues with the RMBP?

thanks

Surely if you haven't noticed them yet, why go looking for them...... I can tell you now that you will never find a perfect anything. Regardless of price or object.

You could run the Apple Hardware Test...

Reboot your rMBP and hold down the "D" key. It'll take about an hour to run the extended test.

For the monitor, you could run through these images provided by J. Vincent on PBase...

You'll see banding on the gradients, but the solid colors are useful for identifying dead/stuck pixels. Put the browser in full-screen mode and scroll around.

For ghosting/image retention, set the energy saver settings so the computer sleep and screen sleep are both "never". Set the desktop to a grey, display a window or windows with some strong solid colored areas displayed. Let it sit for at least 30 minutes...or hours if you want. Move the displayed window and watch for a latent image.

Here's a link to diglloyd's Mac Performance Guide. It's the first place I saw which reported the "ghosting" problem. Scroll down and you'll see some examples of what to watch for...

Congrats on the new rMBP. ;)
