Hi! As many of you would have noticed that the MacBook Retina has a problem recognising and mounting certain USB 3.0 Drives and other peripherals. I had this issue with my My Passport 1TB SE USB 3.0 and it didn't go away after I installed the firmware update Apple released early on.

Since then I bought a newer version of the drive and it worked flawlessly with USB 3.0 while I had to use the older one by bridging a USB 2.0 cable to make it work.

To test the issue further I bought a Lexar USB 3.0 Card Reader which again wasn't recognised and I had to resort to the workaround with the USB 2.0 cable.

When I checked software update today it came up with an update for MacBook Pro and Air 2012 and felt excited that it might solve the issue and it really did.

My Lexar USB 3.0 card reader is being recognised now and the old WD My Passport 1TB SE USB 3.0 has mounted as well.

This seems to fix this annoying problem and kudos for Apple by addressing it in good time.:D

So has anyone with the same issue have any luck with the new update?
