Double-tapping a drag

No, NOT zombies.

I'd like to single-click an item in a list and then drag to highlight more items.

Currently I have to double click (actually, more of a tap-and-a-half; mousedown, mouseup, mousedown) to do that.

I'd like to reverse them on Magic Mouse and any other input device.

I couldn't seem to get the right combo in Accessiblity and/or Mouse.
