Anyone use large external display with macbook air?

Just wondering, since my mba 2011 didnt run well for D3 with a Dell 3011. Under Normal operation its fine, to even watch movies as such.
Its just jerky when comes to diablo3 even at the lowest settings or mid settings

Anyone with 2012 mba? Any experience to share?

I don't have any helpful info for you sorry, but I do really like the look of the recently announced LG IPS 7's. They are only 1080p resolution, but have a tiny bezel. :cool:
 
I run a 30 inch Apple Cinema Display from a 2010 Macbook air. It looks like you've answered your own question; it does the job, but you can see screen redraw in web browsing, and I wouldn't even bother with any games at full resolution.

As for the latest Intel 4000 graphics, I believe the 2D performance is finally better than the Nvidia 320M.
 
I have a 2012 MBA w/ 1.8 GHZ i5 and watching videos and everything else seems to run fine on a 1080p external monitor. Have not done much gaming on it, but obviously there will be a slight drop in performance due to the higher resolution. Animations are smooth and the computer seems to handle it just fine.

What resolution d3 were you playing?
 
11"/i7/8GB mid 2012 model, D3 is jerky at 2560x1600, on a 30" dell 3008 wfp. Quite playable at lower resolution(1920x1200 seems about right for me), notwithstanding, micro stutter and the occasion high latency lag are still very much present.

That's what i figured. I'd be surprised if the 2011 could even do 1920*1080 at lowest settings.
Of course gaming is going to be poor at extremely high resolutions. It is a good gpu, but integrated none the less.
 
I use mine with some 24" LG monitor through the DVI converter. Looks and works fantastic. It actually looks better than the MBA screen.

We do need to remember this is D3 we are talking about. Honestly I don't know how much of an improvement it would be switching over to the 2012 edition as the "jerky" issue can be experienced even on a pretty awesome gaming rig. Just do a google search on the term "micro stuttering" and you will notice that this is not uncommon at all regardless of how awesome a system you have. While I am amazed at the storyline and captivated by the gameplay, much work needs to be done by blizzard regarding this micro stuttering, rubber banding, jerkiness thingamajig that just kills the whole experience of an otherwise stupendous game.

p.s. Truth be told.... I just can't get past the enrage timer on diablo 3 belial inferno mode but it is soooo much easy to blame it on blizzard. :D
 
Micro shutter happens even with my desktop with ati7850... So i guess its blizzard problem

Infact my 2011 mba is playable but the jerky-ness is pretty bad....its like constantly jerky movements....

Im trying to reduce some space on my desk as my desktop is using for one purpose only....thats d3....haha.....
 
No problem with micro stuttering on my desktop, and it's a CF rig too (which is notorious with micro stuttering).
 
24" Philips LCD with full HD. Runs great but it could've been better with a more color accurate ICC profile for the external monitor. But perfomance-wise: Pure awesomeness!
 
From another thread here, the prospect of a 27" IPS display is damn tempting. there are a bunch of korean companies that use LG panels on ebay that are supposedly supposed to be very good, better than most and close to apple quality (not quite). They go for about $300. I'm fighting the urge to upgrade so bad right now, but my dual monitor setup is less than a year old.
