Hi,

I plugged an 2.5" 7200rpm external hdd to my AirportExtreme. I can share it without any problem.

But I after start using that drive I notice a bid drop on my network performance.

I have 2 ip-cameras installed, while they were just fine before, now I can watch them at 2-3fps at best.

File transfer rates also dropped dramatically.

If I remove the HDD, it goes back to its normal state... Everything runs just much faster...

Any idea why I am experiencing this?

TIA!

This might be completely wrong, but could it have to do with indexation of the hard drive? Try putting it in the ignore-list of Spotlight and see if it becomes any better.

Thanks for your reply.

Actually I experience the performance drop while the drive is idle. I am trying to connect my IP cameras from my IOS devices and the only getting 2-3fps at max. If I remove the drive, they go back to 18-20fps.
