Playing Guild Wars 2 or SWTOR or WOW on a MacBook Pro

I plan to procure MacBook Pro 13" and with the Nvidia 9400m I expect to be able to play Guild Wars 2 and SWTOR and WOW on it.

Anyone else experienced this or similar games on any of the MBP models?
 
Uhh I wouldn't count on even the new MBP 13s to play Guild Wars 2 with any sort of decency. Discrete or bust.
 
Okay going to get Guild Wars 2 and whip it out on this MBP soon. I expect to play it decently.

WOW on the Nvidia 9300m (Asus netbook) works well on fair settings. So GW2 on a better processor will be awesome I hope.

Just to add, all of the games mentioned are playing nicely on LOW graphics on a 2012 MBP with only an integrated GFX card.

LOL it's all good. :) @ OP don't worry games run fine with lower settings and just get a decent fan or something and you'll be set. Find something called macfan.exe, it'll save your (gaming) life.

I'll have a video out soon showing WoW will run at ultra (with a few exceptions) on the '12 MBP 13" at native res.

Lol, you call 650m "mediocre" but praise the 9400m?

On-topic: 9400m will struggle with gw2. I tried playing it with 9600m gt and I get around 25-30 fps on lowest settings, 1400x900 resolution. The hd4000 will do much better sovi expect the current airs and 13" MBP play it just fine on medium settings (MBP will be better due to lower native res and higher GPU clock)

The 9400M did its job very well for what it was sold for. Example it was sold to MacBook owners and at the time it was one of the best things for the MacBook's requirements and work loads


However for what the Retina MacBook Pro does the 650 is nothing but a mediocre choice when you can have something better and deliver better experience to the user.

You clearly have no idea on hardware performance vs workload issues I see.

the 9400m did its job well??? this is a thread about gaming. the 9400m was a piece of garbage gpu even when it was initially released.

I don't know how diablo 3 compares to guild wars or wow but it plays nicely on a 2010 13' MacBook pro. Just throwing that out there.

Back your claim up. When the 9400M was released it offered a 5x graphics increase for MacBooks when compared to Intel's integrated crap.

Moreover, a 9400M offered and continued to offer solutions for Macs for another year and a half. Talk about crap huh?

A GPU is designed for something in specific. In this case the 650 was not designed for the task of Retina. That's what the 660 to 680 are for.

You'll need to show how Apple could squeeze a more powerful GPU into this thin chassis without affecting thermals. You see, the 650M used in the RMBP is over clocked to outperform a GTX 660. You seem to think Apple could have done better, so I'm curious to see how Apple could have put a more powerful GPU into the RMBP without changing its thickness or overall design.

People who want a gaming laptop that provides maximum frame rates should probably still get a Windows laptop. The RMBP was designed to offer the best overall laptop experience, not necessarily to be the best gaming platform.

I'm going to defend my argument of the 9400M being good on this thread. In another thread I have burden to prove the 650 is bad. I'll leave here while I get to my Mac.
 
I play WoW, Starcraft2, Diablo3 and Minecraft on my 15'' MBP, 2,2GHZ, i7, 4gb RAM.

It works properly, smooth and fast. Perfectly for this type of gaming. Although I do have to say if you would like to really game then you need an gaming PC.:rolleyes:


13'' inch, you really don't want to game on those scale my friend.

The rMBP runs Skyrim at 1920x1200 on ultra with 40 fps. If you call it a 'mediocre' result then I don't even know what to say. What would be a better GPU choice, in your opinion? The 650m is practically unbeatable in regards to power draw/heat/performance balancing. And lets be frank and call it GTX660m, because its what that chip is.

Lol it doesn't outperform a GTX 660.. it outperforms a GT 660M :p. For the fellow rMPR users - our GPU is essentially a GT660M with less power consumption.

thanks for your apple.com copy and paste job but anyone with a clue knows the 9400m was absolute garbage.

back my claim up? how about looking at ANY benchmarks you'll find online. it was considered a low end gpu even when it was released.

I wonder where you can find what you claim is copy/paste. You cant. It was taken down years ago. So, no, I didn't copy/paste.
 
Is there going to be a mac version of GW2? Or are you talking about running it in bootcamp environment?
