Hey, i have been trying to get my Xserve g4 to see a 2.5" SATA HDD (Connected using a ide -> sata adapter) but i just can't get it to see the hdd (the power light on the sled dosen't even light up). I tested the hdd and adapter on annother computer and tried a spare hdd in the sled and both work fine separately but i just don't see why the two won't work together.

What chip is your SATA->IDE adapter based on? You can get more luck with Marvell based one. There was SATA conversion kit for Xserve G4 based on Marvell chip: http://www.c3-xtech.com/SataUpg.pdf
looks like the name written on the chip is "sunplusIT" I have has these work in macs before, but i have been finding the Xserve is very picky about hardware
