iMac audio setup

Hi guys, had my iMac a while now and recently bought some AKG 550 headphones to replace some aging Sennheiser's. This got me thinking about improving my iMac audio setup. Ive done some digging around and it seems most recommend a DAC, headphone amp or both. I've spotted this one here:

This appeals as it has the portability aspect and generally gets good reviews for its price point.

I'm just wondering what set ups people have or what I should be looking at. I also have a pair of JBL Creature speakers but use headphones more often. I don't really have a budget and all my music is ripped in Apple lossless.

Is portability needed for you iMac? How many of the features (inputs/outputs, EQ etc) will you be using?

The onboard EQ can be a plus or a minus, depending on your viewpoint. I don't think the EQ circuitry can be bypassed.
 
The Fiio e17 is a well regarded entry level portable dac/amp. It certainly won't hurt anything, but your new cans are low impedance/high efficiency, so they don't really need amplification. Whether the DAC is better or worse than the one in your iMac is an endless debate. :)
 
Thanks for the advice so far. Anyone else have any thoughts on DAC's for the iMac etc?
