Now with the verdict of the Apple vs. Samsung patent lawsuit fallen clearly on Apple's side, the next step will be a hearing on preliminary injunctions to stop sales of the infringing Samsung devices. The Verge reports that the hearing will take place on September 20th after Apple submits its requests by August 29th, giving Samsung two weeks to respond.

Meanwhile, The Verge's Nilay Patel, a former lawyer, speculates on the overall consequences of the verdict. Patel, of course, expects Apple to file preliminary injunctions to bar the sale of infringing devices. In the long term, he expects that other Android manufacturers will start making changes to both UI and physical appearance in response to the verdict.
In the long term, we're sure to see lots of UI behaviors change across Android -- most companies have already moved away from the bounceback scrolling behavior protected by the Apple patent in this case, and we're sure to see tap-to-zoom and multitouch scrolling behavior affected on new devices as well. We're also sure to see new handsets adopt highly differentiated designs, as Apple has proven both its design patent and trade dress claims are strong enough to persuade a jury.

Meanwhile, All Things D points out that Samsung will certainly pursue the appeal process to attempt to overturn the outcome.

They have awoken the sleeping dragon: Google.

Android phones is still outpacing iPhones. It's just that now many companies will be suing the pants off Apple...in their courts.
 
Apple, take that billion and make a FaceTime app not built into the iPhone!

Gotta seriously suck. But hey, Samsung knew the party couldn't last forever.
I just hope Google took some notes and make some serious changes to Android.
I don't think anyone wants to see Apple go thermonuclear. Not after this win.
 
Good for apple, while I don't agree with the decesion to uphold that crap. But I do feel they have awakened a sleeping giant. Known as google.

Appke has also set a precendent that they will sue people ove a rectangle.
 
they should just drop the law suit and combine to make some insane phone that lets us do whatever we want.

Ha, hardly. Google is in rapid decline, and the evidence is everywhere. Like so many other online web companies, Google burned extremely brightly extremely quickly. They peaked not long ago, and are now in freefall. The quality of almost all of their services has been in steady decline, and I do believe this will mark the assured decline of Android as well.

You realize apple hasn't sued google because....they'll get ripped to shreds in court.
 
Don't confuse Android with TouchWiz. TouchWiz was a blatant copy of iOS, and it was programmed by Samsung. The design dress of most of the Samsung phones were a blatant copy of the look and feel of the iPhone, and Google had nothing to do with this either. This is about what Samsung chose to do, even as Google warned them to not copy the iPhone. Why would Google support Samsung when there is evidence that it told Samsung that what they were doing it wrong.

This is all a game to develop licensing costs. It's business, pure and simple.

Google created a great, awesome, thank you, thank you, search engine. So let me say Thank you, Thank you, to Google for that.

After that they are like my 2 year old walking around copying everything her older sister says. If Apple said they were making poop sandwiches, Google would try to beat them to it, and make them for half the price!

If this were about "rounded rectangles," the result would have been different. It simply wasn't.
 
Ok, next lawsuit. Apple is using its monopoly with the iOS Operating System and isn't allowing other web browsers to become the default web browser used by the OS for things like links in e-mails, etc.

So, just like Microsoft did with Internet Explorer and had to offer ways of letting consumers pick the default browser, so must Apple.

I prefer Chrome or even Maxthon. Allow me to make those the default!
 
Steve Jobs did not STAND for patent infringement......he WARNED them.
Samsung should've taken the offer...........greedy

Doubt it. Apple owns BOth hardware and software. They don't have to let others in their sandbox. MS was different. They don't own the hardware so they can't keep someone out of someone else's sandbox.
 
Ahh yes. Further proof our patent system is terribly, terribly broken. Good job team.
 
I remember seeing the samsung play at best buy beside I pod Touches, and not being able to tell the difference from a distance in the packaging. It was just too blatant for any reasonable person to ignore, unless you were some samsung fan or something.

I can't believe that european Judge ruled against them.
