Hello guys,

I bought an iMac a week ago and I got a free copy of Mountain Lion with it.. I just need to download it from the Apple store. I just want to know how good is ML running on the new iMacs. Is it running smooth or should I wait for an update?

Thanks

Overall, it's better than Lion (which you have now) a few bugs manifested themselves in the las update, but on the whole it's an improvement. If you also use IOS devices iPhones / ipads etc. more integration with ML.

Thanks... I want to be sure because I use this iMac for work only. I dont want to make it buggy or slow.. I dont have other Apple devices so I wont use many of the features. I only have a Macbook Pro and the iMac.

Maybe I can try ML in the MBP and see how it works

I updated all three of my Macs without any issues...There is a bug in Terminal, but I doubt that will cause you any issues.

I definitely noticed a performance boost compared to Lion on my 2011 iMac.

Probably the only thing you should look out for is whether the software you use has any issues with ML.

Apple's apps are fine, and since the OP has only just purchased the Mac, it's doubtful that there will be too many errant apps installed...It was just a few utilities with me...Istat pro, works but isn't 100% compatible, there are updates for most available now too.

The only thing I have installed is Adobe Creative Suite CS5 (Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Dreamweaver...) and Microsoft Office 2011.

Would those be fine?...

I'm planning on doing a fresh install anyway.

I don't believe you'll encounter much issues with your desired set-up.
Just use it like any other OS, install set-up and get to work of all the clean installs and upgrades I've performed haven't had issues at all.

Is there a new update for ML recently?

I guess you are new to mac ? :)
Yes you should update to mountain lion.
and once you have updated, you can go to the appstore and get the updates. you´ll be notified. latest is a small update; 10.8.1.

No.. I'm not new to mac. I just don't have time to follow the news. I have an iMac with Lion so if there is a new update for Mountain Lion I won't get a notification in my software updates right?... so no, I don't know if there is a new update for Mountain Lion. That's why I asked.

I'm new to the mac world, just got my iMac about 2 weeks ago. Used Lion for a few days then upgraded to Mountain Lion.

I have no point of reference I guess, being new to OS X anyway, but I've had no issues at all. I love how quickly it responds, I had a PC that ran Windows 7 and brand new out of the box it didn't run as well as Lion or Mountain Lion.

Congrats on the new iMac, too.

Oh no mountain lion they sell as a new operating system. And sine they charge money for it you will never be asked to download it by the software update.

Thanks... did you installed mountain lion already?

At this moment is kind if difficult to install ML... Im using the iMac for work and cant afford to start testing with it
